The Beginning of Our Story

Let’s have a little back story of our new mission field.

We have now made two trips to the Andes mountains this year and other trips to Peru before that. In the past, it has been to northern Peru, where we have made many very dear friends. It is there we always imagined getting more involved with ministry and even potentially “settling down”. But by the Holy Spirits prompting and the Father’s orchestration of perfectly timed connections, He led us to the unexpected southern Peru near Cusco. This, by the way, is around 30 hours of driving away from our original Peruvian stomping grounds.

In February, we met with Jeff, a missionary from the states who has been doing missions for 40 years in Mexico and Peru. He showed us around Urubamba, a city in the Sacred Valley, and taught us as much as he could in a week about being a missionary there. We were introduced to some of the local Quechua people on top of the mountains in a small town called Chupani and amazingly got to share the gospel with the leader and his extended family. All of them accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior! They then told us they wanted us to come back… us, the insignificant Christ-followers that don’t know what we’re doing. But as I have to remind myself, God uses the lowly so that He may be magnified! Praise be to God He is in control and not I.

Well, long story short, we went back in July. We got to spend two more weeks in Urubamba with Jeff, and two of those days with the Quechua of Chupani again. What a blessing it was to see them again and meet new faces. And once again, God worked. More people joined the family of Christ, and they asked us to come back and teach them about the Bible. God had clearly been working here long before our arrival. “The harvest is plentiful, and the workers are few.” While there we decided on a final timeline and the arrival of our family in January 2027.

We came home in February knowing where He wanted us to go. And came home again in July knowing when.

Now, we continue in our preparations. Studying Spanish, saving money, giving things up, dotting our I’s, and crossing our T’s, and of course praying.

Our God is sufficient and mighty. As we remember this, we will continue doing what He commands. “Go and make disciples of all nations.”
